IMPORTANT: You Are What You Call Yourself

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

Hey, Everyone! This new topic is labeled IMPORTANT because- well- it is! These articles under IMPORTANT are going to be sincere, inspiring, and might make you think twice.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and said, I’m so fat. or I look ugly. or maybe it’s, They look better than me. Perhaps it’s as simple as this: I’m a loser. Have you ever said any of those nasty things in front of someone? Maybe even hoping they’ll say something like, no you’re not! Or you are pretty!

Some people say those things about themselves in hopes for a lovely comment from others afterward (it's called fishing for a compliment). Well, what if someone says, “Yes, I agree”, or says “yup, you are a total loser!” You wouldn’t feel so good about fishing for that compliment now would you?

I have an interesting activity I made up for you to try.

First, think of some of those not so nice things you tend to tell yourself on a regular basis. Maybe it’s that you’re fat, or stupid, or a loser, or ugly…

Now, state your name then say what you “are.”

For example:

My name is… and I am “fat”.

My name is… and I am “stupid”.

My name is… and I am a “loser”.

This doesn’t sound like something you should be telling yourself, right? “Hey, my name is (fill in the blank) and I am (a bunch of negative thoughts).” Nope - not a healthy way to think of yourself? Well, what if I told you we are what we call ourselves. So, watch your thoughts! You don’t want to be the stupid. Or the fat. Or the loser.

Here’s another part of my activity:

Say your name.

Now say something that you doubt in yourself, like I am perfect.

My name is... I am super smart.

My name is...I am fantastic!

Doesn't this sound and feel a lot better once you said something good and true about yourself? When I tell you we are what we call ourselves doesn't it naturally feel better inside to say positive things and think positive thoughts? This, for me, provides the same type of feeling when someone comments something nice or compliments me.

Before:

My name is Kait. I’m terrible at writing.

After:

My name is Kait. I am a great writer.

See! I feel better inside already... Positive Vibes Only! Please do yourself a favor and start practicing the art of self love through positive thoughts and direct complements! Do this activity every time you catch yourself saying or thinking something negative, and do it with confidence. This does take some practice, so if you find yourself struggling in the beginning, try to offer others direct compliments and gratitude - it is amazing how good you can feel from complimenting others too!

Always remember that you are what you call yourself!

You are smart.

You are skinny.

You are perfect.

You are healthy.

You are cool.

You are great.

You are pretty.

You are awesome.

You are a poet.

You are a yogi.

You are a writer.

You are a singer.

Peace,

Kait The Writer

I agree. A person is not (should not be) defined by his (or her) appearance. Appearance changes throughout our life. Character is constant.

Proud of your insight baby! You are right! It is much easier focusing on the negative things. Our brains are just hardwired that way, so it does take practice being positive and thinking positively about the Self. Great inspiration you posted this week :) I am ending this blog imaging a world where everyone loved themselves wholly & always thought the best thoughts possible!

Good article. So... I shouldn't call myself fat and stupid , huh? Good information. Positive thoughts and positive deeds.
