BOOKS: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes

Hello, Readers! Welcome back to another BOOKS article. Are you a Hunger Games fan? If so, I hope you enjoy this book review on the newest Hunger Games book, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes by Suzanne Collins.

‘The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes’ was just recently published last year. For those who don’t know, this book is a prequel to the Hunger Games.

“People aren’t so bad, really,” she said. “It’s what the world does to them.” ― Suzanne Collins, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes

If you have not read the Hunger Games trilogy, I sincerely recommend that you do before you read ‘The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes.’ You will appreciate the prequel a lot more, trust me.

The Hunger Games trilogy, and the prequel, fall under the genres of dystopian fiction, science fiction, and drama. If you are a big dystopian junkie like I am, you will probably love this series as I did.

I was so excited when I found out Suzanne Collins was releasing a prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy. I read the Hunger Games when I was twelve, and it has been my favorite teen-fiction book ever since. I’ve reread it multiple times, and I usually never reread books unless I absolutely love them.

My older sister surprised me with the book for my birthday, and I couldn’t wait to read it. But, as I’m sure I already wrote in a past article, I have an enormous TBR(to be read), so the book waited patiently on my shelf until it was time.

After finishing my last read, I opened ‘The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes’ immediately. And, it was everything I hoped it would be.

It was like the writer wrote this book for her original fans of THG. Her writing style seemed different, in a good way, and at times I felt she was writing about a specific topic--just to please her fans.

I enjoyed the book. The characters were good, the plot was solid, and it kept me hooked from the beginning to the end. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I will say that it focuses on the antagonist from the original books when he was a young man, about sixty-five years before Katniss Everdeen.

“Well, as they said, it's not over until the mockingjay sings.” Suzanne Collins, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes
