BOOKS: Ink and Bone

Hello, Book Lovers! How have you been? In this post, I will be sharing my thoughts and opinions on my latest read, Ink & Bone by Rachel Caine. Enjoy!

I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. ‘Ink & Bone’ is a fantasy read-- and typically, I am not big on fantasy, but I sincerely liked reading this one. It was filled with adventures in every chapter, heart-clutching situations, and a few sad moments that made you sympathize with the main characters.

‘Ink & Bone’ was written in 2015 by New York Times bestselling author Rachel Caine. It’s the first book in the five-book series, ‘The Great Library Series.’ Caine wrote not only the ‘The Great Library Series’ but also the fifteen-book series, ‘The Morganville Vampires, and the five-book series, ‘Stillhouse Lake.’

She was quite the novelist and had a talent for good story-telling.

‘Ink & Bone’ is set in a dystopian world where the Great Library of Alexandria was never destroyed and now acts as an authoritarian power. What gives this Library so much power is that it holds and controls all access to knowledge. And in this future, owning books is highly illegal!

This world Caine has created is very complex and intricate and can make you feel like you actually lived in it. This story’s world has multiple layers to it, which is a big reason I loved the book so much. From far away, it looked like one thing-- but when you got closer, you realize it’s much more complicated than it appears.

The main character, Jess Brightwell, is a teenage boy from a family of book smugglers. Book smugglers are people who trade books through the black market. It’s a very risky field of business to be in and is punishable by death. Jess leaves his home in London and enters training under the Great Libary(which you have to be very smart to do) to work in the system and become a spy for his family so that they can grow their family business.

Besides Caine’s talent for incredible world-building, the character development in this book is absolutely amazing. Each character has a rich backstory and an interesting personality. If you like solid and lovable characters, I have a feeling you’re going to love ‘Ink & Bone.’

I don’t want to give away too much of the story, so you’re just going to have to read it! Click here to get your copy today!

I can not wait to finish the series!
