Hello, Readers! In this article, you will be reading about my latest read; 'Goddess In The Machine'. Enjoy!
'Goddess In The Machine' was written by Lora Beth Johnson, and it was published just last year! Not only is this a new young adult sci-fi book, but it is also Lora Beth Johnson’s first novel!
It was so good. I don't know how else to explain it. I finished it a little over a week ago, but I am still processing everything. I don't read a lot of new young adult novels, but this one was so worth it. The characters were fun, the plot was exciting, and the theme was just amazing.
“When Andromeda woke, she was drowning,” -Goddess In The Machine, Lora Beth Johnson
I was looking online one day for something new to read when I came across the ‘Goddess In The Machine’. Now I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by the cover, but this cover is absolutely breathtaking. It’s what got my attention. The title sounded interesting, so I read into it. When I read what it was about, I was so excited! I couldn’t afford to buy another book(I already have too many!), so I decided to wait until I finished some of my TBR(to be read) books.
And then, my younger sister surprised me with the ‘Goddess In The Machine’ for my birthday back in August! I wanted to read it sooner, but as I said, I had to finish some of my TBR books. I put the book on display for a little, just admiring the beautiful cover, until it was time to read it.
The story is set in the future. Teenage Andra goes to sleep cryogenically in a tank that is supposed to be sent to a newly discovered planet. Before she went to sleep, she was told that she will wake up in a hundred years with her family. But instead, she wakes up in a dirty, empty cave by a young man named Zhade. He told her that she had been sleeping for a thousand years, not a hundred. When she realized that her family has been dead for years, she decides the best thing for her to do is to go back to her home planet, Earth.
The people on this new planet think technology is magic. It’s kind of their faith. Anyone who knows how to work technology is like a sorcerer. And because Andra cryogenically slept for a thousand years, they think of her as their Goddess.
Forewarning, this book has a lot of plot twists. I loved each and every one of them, of course-- but just so you know, it was a lot to take in(partly why I’m still processing everything). I loved how the author would start to lead you down this path, and then out of nowhere, make you take a sharp turn. It was exciting and kept my attention the whole read.
If you like ‘The Lunar Chronicles’ or ‘The Hunger Games’ or even ‘The Selection’-- I sincerely recommend you read this.
I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, so I am going to end the article here. All and all, it was a great YA novel. Thank you so much for reading this week’s article. Have you read this book? Please write your thoughts on it in the comments! Be sure to like this post, share it with your friends, and as always, come back for more!
Myra Flint, Yes, I did message her!
Have you written the author yet? I think she would love to hear from someone like you who also is going to have her first book published…
