BOOKS: Four YA Books To Read This Summer

Hello, Readers! How has your summer been? Let’s jump into this week’s article! Four young adult books to read this summer. Of course, it’s always physically healthy to get out and enjoy the sunshine, so we can’t stay inside reading all summer, but don’t forget it’s also mentally healthy to binge-read a bunch of books while you’re free from obligations like school, or while you’re on vacation. It’s scientifically proven, I swear.

I have a few books already picked out for this summer. If you know me, then you know I have more than just a few waiting to be read on my shelf; but my main goal is not to buy more books but instead to read the ones I haven’t read on my bookshelf. I already know this silly little goal of mine isn’t going to last whatsoever, but it’s still worth the shot.

In my opinion, the best books the binge-read are YA books. They’re fun and easy to read, and most importantly, entertaining. Sometimes after reading Stephen King, I’ll pick up a YA book and just burn through the entire book in one day. Compared to a lot of heavy classic literature and adult fiction, YA books are almost like candy.

So, here are four YA books that I would love to read for the first time again that I’d 100% recommend to someone in need of a good story this summer.
  1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book was the first young adult book that got me hooked on reading. It’s dystopian with a love triangle(only the best teen books have one, right?). I read it when I was about twelve, but I still enjoy reading it to this day. My love for this book-- and the rest of the trilogy-- deserves its own blog post, really. I could go on and on about THG like a complete and utter fan girl, but I won’t. At least, not in this article.

  2. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. There were chapters in this book that had me staying up way too late to finish reading. This book is a perfect read for someone looking for a YA science fiction book about a teenage girl in an alien apocalypse. It’s a good end-of-the-world adventure story.

  3. The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Barnes. This book is PERFECT. I know I say this about a lot of books, but this book is one of my favorites. I read it in about three days—and that’s only because I couldn’t read it all day. The Inheritance Games is the perfect read for someone looking for a fun teen mystery with a little romance. I read this book in the first place because I heard it was like the movie Knives Out—and it really was. There were many riddles, puzzles, secret passageways, and invisible ink.

  4. Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I read this book a while back, and it’s a true classic. With this book, I feel I can immerse myself in the story and tag along with the main character. I like this one not only because it’s a classic but also because it’s a timeless classic. J.D. Salinger wrote Catcher in the Rye in the 1940s, yet it doesn’t seem that old when you’re reading it. This book is a perfect read for someone looking for classic coming-of-age literature.
