Hello, Readers! Welcome back to another BOOKS article. In this post, you will be reading about my thoughts and opinions on my latest read, Fifty Days by Brittney Kristina. I hope you enjoy!
Do you ever read those books that you can’t stop reading? The books that you get so lost in that you stay up way too late reading? The kind that is impossible to read just little bits at a time? Yeah, that’s how Fifty Days is.
“Sometimes, I wonder if we ever, truly live. If we are always trapped in one place with no way to escape, with rules forcing us to behave a certain way as we stroll along a specific path, which obtains no exact destination.” --Brittney Kristina, Fifty Days
Fifty Days goes under the genres; psychological, fiction, romance, and mystery-- the ingredients for a true captivating novel. If you are into this type of fiction, you need to read this book. I promise you will not regret it.
I’ve wanted to read this book for quite some time now, but as you all know, I have a major TBR. I have this terrible habit of buying books when I know I already have way too much to read. Hahaha.
So, I finally got around to read Fifty Days...
And oh my gosh, I am breathless.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I opened the book. I know I might say this about a lot of books, but this one was a real page-turner.
Fifty Days is written in first-person point of view, and each chapter is a day in the story. If you can’t guess by the title, there are fifty days in total. Like in reality, some days are quiet and short, and other days are busy and filled with action.
The book starts with the main character waking up in a dark basement. She can’t remember who she is, how old she is, or even her own name. All she knows is that she is in an empty basement, her hands are handcuffed together, and a strange young man is watching over her. The guy has bright blue eyes and a jagged scar that runs down the side of his face. At first, she is frightened by him, but as the days go by, she begins to realize that the stranger is not as scary as he appears to be. In fact, he’s almost kind. It seems as though he cares about her, but she can’t understand why. She doesn’t understand why he has kidnapped her. She shouts a million questions at him and demands to know what is happening-- but he told her that he wouldn’t answer any of her nagging questions until it has been exactly fifty days. Later on, she finds out her name is Evelyn, and his name is Ace. The two began to form a friendship, but it takes her some time to trust him-- I mean, I can’t blame her! After what she’s going through, it seems appropriate not to have complete trust in the guy.
“His presence rattles my bones, the white of his skin brought forth by that eerie, soft illumination. His blue eyes find mine and he looks at me. I find myself shivering from the intensity of those eyes, and I turn my head away from him.” --Brittney Kristina, Fifty Days
I want to share more on the plot because it gets even deeper than what I wrote, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. You’re just going to read the book to find out why Evelyn has been kidnapped, who the mysterious blue-eyed boy is, and what happens to them. And, just like me, you’re going to open the book and pretend like you know what is going on, but in the end, you will be just as surprised as I was.
Brittney Kristina self-published Fifty Days during her senior year of high school. This was actually her second novel. Her first book is called Forsaken. I met Kristina on Instagram a few years back, and since then, she has been one of my favorite indie-authors to watch as their writing journey grows.
I’m not just saying Fifty Days was a great read because I know the author, but because it really was! After finishing it, I felt so honored I had such a talented writer following my account. I can’t wait to see what she will publish next!
