Hello Readers, welcome to this week’s post. In this article, I have written my thoughts on both books and audiobooks. Enjoy!
Most of you know this already, but I love books. When I am not writing a book, I am most likely reading one. I feel like books are so important because they contain incredible knowledge and the power of escapism. The idea of using words to create a tale just fascinates me. It is a form of art, to be able to paint a picture in someone’s mind by putting together letters.
Do you read books? I feel like a lot of people nowadays don’t read as much anymore. And that’s most likely because we have so many other things to keep us occupied. We have smartphones, TVs, tablets… Who needs to read for enjoyment when you can easily turn on your favorite show?
Reading does require a certain amount of attention, though. So I can understand if you aren’t a big reader yourself. If you’re the type who is always on the go, reading might not be your thing. And that’s okay! Don’t feel bad if you have a hard time focusing on a book. As I said, reading does require a certain amount of attention.
If you are like me, though, reading is probably one of your favorite activities. I love to hear and read stories. Stories inspire me and teach me many different things. One of the reasons I read so much is because I like to learn. Reading classic books teaches me how to write my own stories properly. If you want to be a writer, the fastest way you can learn how to write is to spend your days reading classic literature. Books will teach you what to do and what not to do(depending on if it’s a good book or not).
If reading is too hard for you, maybe try listening to audiobooks. I just started listening to audiobooks this week, and I really enjoy it so far. I thought I wouldn't be able to stand someone reading to me, but it's surprisingly pleasant. When I am busy throughout my day, I have been playing chapters in the background. I am currently listening to Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It is read by a famous Youtuber named David Dobrik. I don't watch Youtube, so I had no idea who he was, but he does an amazing job reading this book. His tone will change depending on the mood of the chapter, and it has kept me on the edge of my seat.
I tried reading Frankenstein last year, but it was challenging for me. I had a hard time understanding what was going on in the book, mostly because of the old language and word usage, so I put it aside for this year. I don't want to say I was bored with it, but I got distracted with another read…
When I saw that Spotify had the Frankenstein audiobook, I figured I would try to get into the story again. Listening to the book made me appreciate it way more than I first did. I can not wait to read it on my own. (I will most likely write a BOOKS article on it soon, so keep a lookout!)
What are your thoughts about audiobooks? Do you think they are a form of cheating, or do you think they are another way of enjoying a book? My answer: it is another way of enjoying a book. I feel that listening to a book is not cheating, and it will still give you the benefits of the story. Please write your thoughts about this matter down in the comments below! I would love to see what you all think.

We love audio books for road trips! You can still see and enjoy your surroundings while listening. I also like to listen to them when I run. Like a good book you cant stop reading- sometimes I can't stop running because I have to know how the chapter or book ends!
I used to listen to books when I had long rides, like going to college or driving to a conference. However, I did learn over time, a really well read book can be a huge distraction while driving...right up there with texting!
Reading the classics- whether textually or aurally is an excellent idea Kait.
