Have you ever heard of the Terracotta soldiers? This new article is going to be about my experience at the exhibit in The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. So go ahead, get comfy, settle down, and begin reading.
It all started the day after the fashion show I went to. Yes, I went to a fashion show. Crazy, right?! It was so much fun! First, my grandmother, Nona, picked my little sister Jess and I up, then we ate dinner at a spectacular restaurant located in the Norfolk hotel, The Main (It’s a very artsy hotel if you haven’t stayed there. Really cool statues, and pictures.)
After dinner (which I had this phenomenal meal; shrimp and grits) we headed to the Chrysler Museum, and got to watch a fashion show! It was my first time seeing a fashion show in person. It was a such an awesome experience.
Thank you, Nona, for taking me there. I had so much fun! So did Jess!
The next day, at 7 A.M, the three of us, meet up with my parents, then from there, we began our road trip. We took a van that my father was about to sell. Because if you didn’t read my ABOUT, it says that my father owns a automotive shop in VA.
Did you know that minivans get bullied or ignored on the road? Cars and trucks will cut minivans off, and they’ll race past you. It’s absurd! The reason why we thought it was awful, is because we normally don’t drive minivans. So, when we were on the road, we just couldn’t believe how bullied minivan drivers are. So please, if you or your parents drive a car or truck, be easy on minivans! Ha-ha-ha!
Once we drove the two hours to Richmond, we made it to the VMFA! (That stands for Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, by the way.)
Before I go on, I’d like to explain what the Terracotta soldiers are, and why we can see them today.
There was an emperor, named Qin Shi Huang. Qin Emperor. He was our now-a-day super freak. He was so powerful, and so insecure, and he made a lot of poor decisions. He burned all the Chinese books, and forbid people to learn or read. The reason why, is because he thought people would become so smart, that they’d take his empire.
He also was the one who started the Great Wall of China, to keep his people in, and to block out people who might take his place. Now you know why I said insecure.
He ordered that when he died, he should be buried with soldiers made of terracotta for protection. Yeah. For his protection. Insane, right? That’s what I thought.
On March, 29, 1974, farmers were digging a water well and came across three pits containing more than 8000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 520 horses- which are all located in a museum in Xi'an, China.
So that’s what we saw. Only, it wasn’t all of them. It was only fraction of them. But it was still really cool! We got to see a lot of the treasures from that time period! All of the things in the exhibit were at least 2000 years or older!
If you're interested in seeing this exhibit, you can! It goes on until March 11. But just so you know, you have reserve the tickets before hand.
I took some photos so I could show you all. But just so you know, it’s the people’s fault that they aren’t the best pictures. They were rushing me and getting in my way. I wasn’t using my camera either. It was just my phone.
I hope you liked my post!
The one below is my favorite! :)
